Romans Scripture Memory

Posted under: Christian Living, Scripture — by Richard.Hensley

If you don’t have a Scripture Memory plan for your family, I recommend that you follow our Sermon Series as your framework.  The benefits of memorizing Scripture from the sermon series include: 1) Solidifying the truths learned on Sunday and studied during the week in our memories, 2) The entire family can memorize together, 3) By memorizing the Scripture discussions will more likely be prompted, since the Scripture will be more consistently on the mind, 4) Memorizing serveral passages in a book study will help us to learn the basic flow and outline of the book being studied, 5) Our current series, Foundations of Grace, is focused on two foundational books that will mean passages on foundational doctrines will be impressed upon our hearts.

As we begin our study of Romans, we recommend, if possible, that our families memorize Romans 1:1-17.  These verses will be covered over the span of three weeks, which should make them relatively easy to digest is small portions.  It would be helpful to memorize all of these verses, because they serve to summarize the content of the entire book of Romans.  So, this will serve us well as we study the book.  If this is too much, we recommend that you memorize Romans 1:1-6 and Romans 1:16-17.

If you are memorizing out of the English Standard Version, we have found a helpful website that will take the verses and put them into the form of Verse Memory Cards (Verse Card Maker).  It is important that you choose a small number of verses for each card, so that they will fit.  I have found that if you type in the following verse ranges, choose a date range of 3 days, and choose a 10 point font, it will work perfectly (Printers may cause issues with alignment):

Romans 1:1-4
Romans 1:5-7
Romans 1:8-10
Romans 1:11-13
Romans 1:14-15
Romans 1:16-17

We finished our first series in the book of Genesis, so here are the passages we recommend you memorize:  Genesis 1:1-5 and Genesis 1:26-31.  This is coming a little bit late, but these are relatively simple passages to memorize.  We also recommend a couple of other additional tools to solidify Genesis chapter 1 in our hearts: Memorize the Seven C’s of History with your children:

7 C's of History

7 C's of History

and the Days of Creation:

Days of Creation

Days of Creation

Skip Venable has been emphasizing some of this in his Sunday Morning Class, as well.

We will look at what to memorize in Romans in an upcoming post!

Making Christmas Count!

Posted under: Uncategorized — by Richard.Hensley

DON’T MISS OUR FIRST FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP NIGHT THIS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7th, at 6:30 P.M.  We are excited to begin our monthly Family Discipleship Nights.  These evenings are meant to involve parents, grandparents, singles, and children together as we share with one another ideas for growing together as a family in the Word of God.

Our focus this Wednesday is Christmas!  Yes, it is only the beginning of October, but if retail stores can get a jump start in preparing for this season, how much more Christians as we remember and celebrate the wonder of the incarnation.  By spending an evening focused on Making Christmas Count, we hope to improve the spiritual impact of this holiday season in our own lives, and in the lives of our family members.

It is prayer night, so we will begin with a season of corporate prayer together.  The remainder of the evening will be focused on hearing ideas that will help us to keep Christ the center of our Christmas preparations and celebration.  A few families will share some ideas they have found helpful to this end.  After this time of learning, we will move to the Fellowship Hall and have a Family Activity time.  Our focus for this Wednesday will be putting together a Jesse Tree which significantly help families to focus on Christ on the days leading up to Christmas.

Come ready to learn, fellowship, and have fun together as families!  Our prayer is that this will be a blessing in your homes during this Christmas season, and in the years to come.
